But for them to work, grids also need energy storage and the ability to respond instantly to fluctuations in frequency. Lithium batteries provide a lot of that functionality today, but now a new smart domestic hot water storage tank has been developed that not only heats water 20% more efficiently, but can also use electrical energy when it’s free or even negatively priced.
